CULTURAL TROLLEY TOURS OF DOWNTOWN Scottsdale CONTINUE
Ultimate Art & Cultural Tours provide free Cultural Trolley tours of Downtown Scottsdale take place at 10:30 a.m. the second Saturday of every month. The tours begin at the Old Town Farmer's Market parking lot on the northwest corner of Brown and Second Street. From there, attendees tour the Old Mission and then board a trolley for a two-hour guided tour of the arts district, Civic Center campus, Hotel Valley Ho, Southbridge and the Waterfront. While we have a general vision of what we want Jivemind Glendale to be, we aren't making it for ourselves; we are making it for musicians. Special pilot project: a call for musicians

At this point, our biggest resource is our time, and we want to spend as much of our time as we can doing good things for musicians in the valley. That's why we want to gather together five young bands/artists to bring into the studio to record a Jivemind-sponsored sampler EP, so we need recommendations for talented, hungry artists. The 5 best and brightest of all the recommended artists will receive a complimentary session in the Jivemind studio and recording/mixing/mastering lessons upon request. We think this is a great way to get started, and can't wait to get it rolling.

Deck the walls
with acoustic treatment
Being a music facility has its challenges. Apart from sound-proofing rooms and holding events, we also have to make sure it sounds good inside the rooms, so we'll be building bass traps and acoustic panels that may look, well, a little dull. To avoid the typical drab beige of the average wall, we'd like to send these panels out to be decorated by visual artists. If you know any artists that'd like to show their stuff on our walls, forward this email, or send your suggestions our way.

In addition to this, we've been working closely with www.AZCulture.com, and their artists are all set to display work on our walls. Check out their network of local folks to get what may be a preview of our facility…

This is a call to all wearable arts artists! Submissions for consideration must be made by Wednesday, February 1, 2012.
The four costume categories:

2. Think Globally-Design locally: Environmentally-themed garments.

3. Design for Cause: Fashion inspired by a non-profit cause, such as Youth, Cancer, Domestic Violence, Animals, Art, etc.

4. General: Limitless choice of medium, theme and design. The heavens and beyond are the limit!

The Fashion Fantastico Show is celebrating it's second year. The first year stopped traffic, this year's show will stop the stars, too! This year's Fashion Fantastico is scheduled for Saturday, April 14th at Westgate City Center.

Bead, Palette & Poetry welcomes poets and artists to participate in a remarkable art-workshop!

Lana May (www.lana-bead.info), an established bead artist and teacher is starting a new project. The aim is to combine art mediums such as poetry and painting that reflect her eclectic beadwork. Following Lana’s initial beadwork creations, artists then connect with her themes and develop this to reflect their interpretations.

Art Studios opening on Mill

Looking to use your creativity on Mill Avenue? The Downtown Tempe Community (DTC) is looking for artists interested in joining a studio project on the Valley's most popular street.

Montage, Mill Avenue Art Studios is converting a vacant retail space into an affordable, shared art studio with the goal of encouraging creative activity in Downtown Tempe. Member artists will have the opportunity to create, display and sell their work on Mill Avenue throughout the year. This includes having access to the 500,000 attendees of the Fall and Spring Tempe Festival of the Arts. The studio will also feature monthly Third Thursday art shows featuring the member artists work. As a member of Montage, artists will also have the opportunity to meet and collaborate with other artists, build new audiences and patrons, and establish themselves as part of the Mill Avenue District community. Montage will be located at 740 S. Mill Avenue and is slated to open in October 2011.

Arizona Fine Art EXPO Opportunities
January 19 through April 1, 2012

ART STUDIO rentals are held during the beautiful Scottsdale, Arizona (prime) winter and tourists season (Jan 19 thru April 1) for $2,500 + 20% commission.

Fee includes numerous opportunities such as: working studio, display area for exhibiting and selling fine art which includes 2 display panels (8’ tall by 24’ wide) in a lovely carpeted, gallery background setting, floor space for pedestals and to display sculptures plus life size sculptures. The Art Outlet Has Expanded
Now Over 2200 sq ft of display space
SunDust Gallery has expanded their successful art outlet space to allow more local artists to take advantage of having a place to sell surplus art, slightly damaged art, or art that does not reflect a current style. There is a $50 yearly registration fee with a sales commission. There is no limit on the amount of original artwork that artists can place in the art outlet. Only art priced under $200 is allowed. Space is limited and should fill up fast.

Valley residents will get to experience a robust sampling of the arts – ranging from music, dance, and culture, to performance art and literary works – at Arizona Consortium for the Arts 2nd Annual Blue Guitar Festival of the Arts on Sunday, April 18th at ASU West Campus in Glendale. The event is in collaboration with the ASU Kurdish Youth Club.
The festival will include performances by the “Arizona Classical Kids” Musicians, Arizona School of Classical Ballet Students, a presentation of the Filipino Martial Arts by two sisters, Nikki and Grace Tordil, both are sixth-graders at Luke Elementary School. Singer and Acoustic Guitarist Neil Dicks, Opera Singer Maria Restivo, Singer and Acoustic Guitarist Jonathan Gabriel , Singer Edna Elizabeth Abeyasundra, Musician Vincent Alexander Chavez, “SMUDD”, local Rock and Roll Band that will have you rockin’ and rollin’ to your all time favorites, readings from the “Blue Guitar” Magazine and many other artists. There will also be dignitaries and local personalities from the community speaking about the importance of promoting arts and culture in our communities.
The festival runs from 12:00pm-5:00pm and will be held at Arizona State University at the West Campus, La Sala, 4701 W Thunderbird Rd, Glendale, AZ 85306.

The Blue Guitar is accepting submissions for its Spring edition from January 15, 2010, through February 28, 2010. The Blue Guitar is seeking submissions in all genres — fiction, poetry, plays, creative nonfiction — for its spring issue from January 15, 2010, through February 28, 2010. Writers must submit original work and must live in Arizona. Simultaneous submissions will be accepted, but the writer must notify the magazine as soon as possible if the work is accepted elsewhere. Submissions selected by the editor will appear in the spring edition of the magazine, which will be published online and potentially in print. Please include your name and the best way to contact you on your submission. It is free to submit and submissions may be made in multiple genres. Manuscripts and photos that are mailed to the magazine cannot be returned. Submissions are accepted from January 15, 2010, through February 28, 2010. This contest is open to writers residing in Arizona
Submission deadline February 15, 2010

All submissions must be appropriate for children
5000 words or less
Poetry or Short Stories with or without illustrations
Multiple submissions are acceptable

Submissions must be:
Double spaced (except for poetry)
12 point Times New Roman font
Pages must be numbered
Title should appear in header on right side
Do not put name on pages

Include a cover page with your name, email, mailing address and phone number along with the title of the story and the age group for which you are writing.

If you are under the age of 18 please include your age on the cover sheet for the “by children” portion of the contest.

Ages Groups are 3-5, 6-8, 8-10, 10-12, 12+

Make sure you keep a copy of your story, do not send originals they will not be returned.

Submissions will be judged on originality, writing and professionalism so send your best work.

There is no entry fee.

Winners will be announced February 28, 2010 on the Arizona Consortium of the Arts website artizona.org

Winners will be published in the first issue of the Blue Guitar Jr. an online magazine and will receive an award certificate.

A Day of Culture for the Holiday Season

Nurture an inspirational environment for individuals to self express through the Arts, and to develop their creative abilities.

Our Vision Statement

To create a multicultural arts center to broaden the base of understanding, appreciation and support for the arts through meaningful education initiatives and community partnerships, and to be of service to artists around the state.

Arizona Consortium for the Arts is a Non-Profit Organization approved by the Arizona Corporation Commission in February, 2008. We are seeking 501c3 tax exempt status. Arizona Consortium for the Arts has been established to assist and to be
of service to Arizona artists. We are dedicated to fostering and supporting the arts and artists, including the literary arts (any genres — writers, poets, playwrights), the visual arts (any form — painters, sculptors, muralists) and the performing arts (music, plays, performance art). Currently, the consortium provides support for Arizona artists as well as fostering free access to the arts for the general public by providing information and hosting cultural events. Our first project is a magazine titled "The Blue Guitar, http://www.theblueguitarmagazine.org/." We would like to provide opportunities to educate and involve schools, children and adults in expanding their artistic knowledge and horizons; as well as to, increase Arizona’s reputation nationwide as a cultural destination.
