“Artist of the Month"

Arizona Consortium for the Arts is presenting “Artist of the Month” every last Sunday .
Our February featured artists are Marjory Boyer and Jonathan Gabriel. Marjory and Jonathan have won numerous arts awards, ribbons and recognition. They also are great arts activists and serve on boards. Marjory’s painting “The Blue Guitar” is the permanent cover and logo for the “The Blue Guitar” arts and literary magazine. Join us, bring family and friends and enjoy Marjory’s and Jonathan’s presentation of their exquisite works. Refreshments served.

A call to writers

The Blue Guitar is accepting submissions for its Spring edition from January 15, 2010, through February 28, 2010. The Blue Guitar is seeking submissions in all genres — fiction, poetry, plays, creative nonfiction — for its spring issue from January 15, 2010, through February 28, 2010. Writers must submit original work and must live in Arizona. Simultaneous submissions will be accepted, but the writer must notify the magazine as soon as possible if the work is accepted elsewhere. Submissions selected by the editor will appear in the spring edition of the magazine, which will be published online and potentially in print. Please include your name and the best way to contact you on your submission. It is free to submit and submissions may be made in multiple genres. Manuscripts and photos that are mailed to the magazine cannot be returned. Submissions are accepted from January 15, 2010, through February 28, 2010. Children’s Fiction Writing Contest

Children’s Fiction Writing Contest

This contest is open to writers residing in Arizona
Submission deadline February 15, 2010

All submissions must be appropriate for children
5000 words or less
Poetry or Short Stories with or without illustrations
Multiple submissions are acceptable

Submissions must be:
Double spaced (except for poetry)
12 point Times New Roman font
Pages must be numbered
Title should appear in header on right side
Do not put name on pages

Include a cover page with your name, email, mailing address and phone number along with the title of the story and the age group for which you are writing.

If you are under the age of 18 please include your age on the cover sheet for the “by children” portion of the contest.

Ages Groups are 3-5, 6-8, 8-10, 10-12, 12+

Make sure you keep a copy of your story, do not send originals they will not be returned.

Submissions will be judged on originality, writing and professionalism so send your best work.

There is no entry fee.

Winners will be announced February 28, 2010 on the Arizona Consortium of the Arts website artizona.org

Winners will be published in the first issue of the Blue Guitar Jr. an online magazine and will receive an award certificate.

A Day of Culture for the Holiday Season

The Arizona Consortium for the Arts and Peoria Home and Garden Expo Center proudly present A Day of Culture for the Holiday Season. The free event for the whole family will start at Noon on Saturday, December 12th at the Peoria Home & Garden Expo Center. There will be performances by local groups and readings from the fall issue of The Blue Guitar, including a dedication of the issue in loving memory of Scottsdale resident and World War II veteran Richard Colosimo. The Peoria Expo is at 8606 W. Ludlow Drive, off the Loop 101 at Thunderbird Road.
